Aside from his long and illustrious career as a dancer with the Ballet der Deutschen Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf, Ballet der Bayerisches Staatsoper and together with John Neumeier at the Hamburg Ballet for over 20 years, Ivan Liška has always been interested in choreography and exploring ideas through the marriage of movement and music. In 1997 his work «Der Streit» based on Mariveaux’s novel was created for the Ballett Company of the Janacek National Theatre in Brno. It was during his long years as artistic director of the Bayerisches Staatsballett that he was able to present a wide range of the existing choreographic canon, support the creation of new choreographic work and delve into his passion for historical reconstructions in the productions of «The Sleeping Beauty» in 2003 and «Le Corsaire» in 2007. His chamber words have been regularly performed by the Junior Company.Today Liška continues to support the next generation of choreographers through his work for the Heinz-Bosl-Stiftung and the Bayerisches Junior Ballett München. Holder of the prestigious Bayerischen Verdienstordens, Maximiliansorden and the Bavarian „Europa“-Medaille. In 2020 he was recognised by the goverment of the Czech Republic with the Medals „Artis Bohemiae Amicis“ and „Gratias Agit“.
