Impressions from the Ballet Studio
The title of our main touring program this year is «Love Messages» and the title directly relates to Ivan Liška, Norbert Graf and Maged Mohamed’s ballet of the same name. Originally created in 2022, it was one of the first ballets that was staged for our new ensemble this season.
The title, «Liebesbotschaften», references the piece’s musical framework, which comprises selections from the song cycles of Franz Schubert. Schubert composed more than 600 songs in a late Romantic style, characterised by introspection and foreboding melancholy, and often set to words by famous German authors. Like many of the romantic landscape paintings of the time, the idyllic and serene scenes appear to conceal searching questions and dark aspects of our collective nature.
